Beyond Data-Driven Digital Twins: Integrating AI with Computational Mechanics

We are thrilled to invite you to attend the 2026 UKACM Autumn School focusing on theoretical aspects of computational mechanics combined with hands-on practical activities for research software development. The 2026 UKACM Autumn School aims to foster knowledge exchange, collaboration, and skill development among professionals, researchers, and students in the field.
The theme of this year's school is Beyond Data-Driven Digital Twins: Integrating AI with Computational Mechanics. It will cover both theoretical and practical aspects of AI-enabled computational mechanics and digital twin technologies. The programme will include contributions from Professor Dirk Hartmann (TU Darmstadt, Siemens AG) on real-time algorithms for digital twins, Dr Sathis Ponnusami (QMUL) on reliable integration of AI with computational mechanics and mechanics case studies, and Dr Mattia Montanari (PhysicsX, Oxford) on agentic AI for autonomous and decision-centric simulation workflows.
This initiative follows the successful organisation of the first UKACM Autumn School in 2023 on Mixed finite element formulations in solid mechanics by the Glasgow Computational Engineering Centre, and the second UKACM-SEMNI Autumn School in 2024 on Data-Centric engineering in Computational Mechanics with contributions from the University of Cambridge, CIMNE and Universidad de Zaragoza and and UKACM-GACM Autumn School in 2025 on Open-Source Codes for High-Performance Computing with contributions from Imperial College London; Newcastle University; King’s College London; Bundeswehr University Munich; Technical University of Munich; Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon; Aston University; University of Birmingham.
